Why a research lab writes between publications, the five topics we'll cover, and what we won't do here.
Most of what a research lab learns never reaches the people who could use it. Papers go to peer review. Talks live for forty-five minutes inside a conference hall. Demos play, then close. The slow, in-between work — the part where you actually figure something out — almost never gets written down.
This notebook is our attempt to fix that. ECLIME builds AI-driven training environments at SIU School of Medicine. Between the publications and the presentations sits a layer of work — small tests, course corrections, things we noticed before anyone wrote them up — that's genuinely useful and has nowhere to live.
So we're writing it down. This is Issue 0.
What we'll write about
Five topics. Every piece we publish carries at least one of them as a tag, so you can follow the lanes you care about and skip the ones you don't.
New tools, new results, new projects — highlighted and explained without the press-release gloss. If a model just did something in a clinic or a journal that matters, this is where we'll point at it.
Simulation, assessment, retention — why one scenario teaches and another just impresses. This is the question our lab exists to answer, so expect us to keep pulling on it.
What the evidence actually supports, what it doesn't yet, and how we'd know the difference.
Research labs accumulate the things that didn't work; almost none publish them. We'd like to be the exception.
The models, tools, and ideas reshaping everything else — flagged when they're worth your attention. Medicine rarely adopts technology first; watching the rest of the world is how you see what's coming.
What this isn't
This is not a press feed. We won't announce every grant or partnership here — if it matters, you'll find it in our publications.
And it isn't gated to insiders. We write first for physicians, researchers, and the people who fund their work — but if you're here because you're curious what AI is actually doing in the world, you're welcome. We'll keep the language plain and the hype out.
Cadence
We won't commit to a schedule before we've earned the right to one. The goal is roughly bi-weekly. The honest reality is: when we have something worth saying.
